Ronaldo issues statement after being dropped by Manchester Utd

Cristiano Ronaldo has released a statement after being dropped from the Manchester United squad for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Chelsea.
The 37-year-old was an unused substitute as United secured a deserved 2-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Wednesday night courtesy of goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes.

Ronaldo, who cut a frustrated figure on the bench, decided to walk down the tunnel in the closing stages of the game and he is alleged to have left the stadium before the final whistle.

Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag stated that he would ‘deal with the incident’ shortly after the match, and United have since confirmed on Thursday that Ronaldo has been dropped from the first-team squad to face Chelsea on Saturday.

A brief statement on their official website read: “Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of the Manchester United squad for this Saturday’s Premier League game against Chelsea. The rest of the squad is fully focused on preparing for that fixture.”

Daily The Mirror claims that Ronaldo has been banned from first-team training for the next three days and he has been handed a whopping £1m fine for his actions.

Ronaldo’s long-term future at Old Trafford remains uncertain and it remains to be seen whether he may have even played his final game for the club.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who is out of contract in June 2023, has struggled to break into Ten Hag’s starting lineup this season, starting only six of his 12 appearances across all competitions and scoring just twice.

Marcus Rashford was preferred ahead of the Portuguese legend to lead the line against Tottenham and the England international is expected to continue up front for Saturday’s clash away at Chelsea.

End of line
