Riyad Mahrez signs new Manchester City contract until 2025

Manchester City have confirmed that winger Riyad Mahrez has signed a new two-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until June 2025.
The 31-year-old had just 12 months remaining on his original deal, which led to speculation over his future at the Etihad Stadium.

However, Mahrez has decided to commit his future to the Premier League champions and is set to remain a key asset under manager Pep Guardiola.

Speaking to mancity.com about his new contract, Mahrez said: “I’m very happy to sign the new deal. I have enjoyed every single minute of my time here. It’s a pleasure to be part of such an incredible club.

“To have helped us achieve the success we have enjoyed in the past four seasons has been unforgettable and made us all hungry to look to achieve even more.

The Algeria international has also won nine trophies in his four years with City, including three Premier League titles, three EFL Cups and one FA Cup.

Mahrez ended the 2021-22 campaign as City’s top scorer in all tournaments, netting 24 times in 47 games including 11 strikes in the Premier League and seven goals in the Champions League.

While Mahrez was a first-team regular under Guardiola in the Champions League last season, starting 11 of their 12 European matches, the winger only began in 15 of his 28 Premier League games.

Mahrez is set to be handed more starts for City in the 2022-23 campaign, however, following the departures of Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling to Arsenal and Chelsea respectively, although January recruit Julian Alvarez will provide fresh competition on the right flank.

The Algerian has become the second City player to sign a new deal this week after midfielder Rodri put pen to paper on a new three-year contract extension until June 2027.
