Mohamed Salah sets new Premier League goalscoring record in Liverpool win

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah set a new Premier League record in Monday’s 6-1 demolition of Leeds United at Elland Road.
The Reds travelled to Yorkshire off the back of a five-game winless run, but they returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion.

Cody Gakpo opened the scoring for Liverpool, before Salah latched onto Diogo Jota’s through ball to blast his first-time effort past Illan Meslier at the near post.

As a result of the clinical strike, Salah has now scored the most left-footed goals in Premier League history.

The 39th-minute effort represented Salah’s 106th Premier League goal with his left foot, surpassing the record previously held by Liverpool icon Robbie Fowler.

Liverpool went on to concede early in the second half at Elland Road, with Leeds pulling a goal back through Luis Sinisterra.

However, the Reds quickly restored their two-goal advantage through Jota, who scored his first Liverpool goal since April 2022.

Salah registered his second goal of the evening with another left-footed strike just after the hour mark, before Jota found the net once again to grab a brace of his own.

A memorable evening for Jurgen Klopp’s side was rounded off in the 90th minute when Darwin Nunez got on the scoresheet to add to Leeds’ misery.

The commanding victory leaves Liverpool with 47 points after 30 league games, and keeps them in the hunt for the European places.

The eighth-placed side are currently six points adrift of Tottenham Hotspur, who currently occupy fifth position and have played one game more than the Reds.

Liverpool may have to be content with the Europa League or Europa Conference League though, with nine points separating them from the Champions League places.

The Merseyside club will return to action on Saturday when they play host to relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest.
