Cesc Fabregas urges Lionel Messi to return to Barcelona
Cesc Fabregas has urged his former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi to return to Camp Nou.
Messi left Barcelona last summer to join Paris Saint-Germain, but the Argentinian continues to be linked with a return to the La Liga club.
Barcelona club president Joan Laporta recently signalled his intent to re-sign the 34-year-old, however, reports suggest that Messi has become annoyed with Laporta’s statements, which could prevent a potential return.
Although there appears to be a strained relationship between Messi and Laporta, former Barcelona player Fabregas is keen for the Argentina international to re-sign with the Catalonian giants.
Speaking to reporters, Fabregas said: “As a Barcelona fan, I hope and I wish that Messi returns to Barcelona. He has one year left of his contract in Paris.
“I would love it if he returned. It is a dream that the club and all the fans have, but I speak to you as a fan of Barcelona.”
While Messi is beginning his second season with PSG – which has already yielded a French Super Cup win – Fabregas is preparing for a campaign with Serie B club Como, where he has also become part-owner.
